Known as a wonder food in Asia for centuries, the goji berry was
the subject of poetry and legend which persuaded people to enjoy its
benefits. Today, people are more apt to trust scientific studies and
recommendations from experts than they are to be influenced by praise
from a Tang Dynasty poem, and nowadays, well-respected doctors and
scientist praise the goji berry for its beneficial effect on health.
Goji research was quite rare until a few years ago, when word-reknowned
nutritionist, Dr. Earl Mindel, author of the revolutionary book, the
Vitamin Bible, did goji research and declared that it was his "dream
come true" to bring the knowledge of goji benefits to the world. Dr.
Mindel commentated that, based on his goji reseach, the goji berry "has
more powerful benefits on health, well-being and anti-aging than any
other product I have seen in the last forty years."
Dr. Mindel focused his goji research on active ingredients in the
goji berry known as polysaccharides. These are contained in four forms:
LBP 1, LBP 2, LBP 3, and LBP 4. These substances act as master molecules
in the body, and they facilitate communication between different types
of cells. This results in a smooth functioning of the body and an
improvement in the body's defense systems.
Dr. Mindel also did extensive goji research on the berries themselves,
and developed a way of analyzing each goji berry
for quality. Just as there are many different types of grapes available
to an expert winemaker, so too there are many varieties of goji--over
40 in Tibet alone. Dr. Mindel focused his goji research on developing
techniques for analyzing goji berries at a cellular level using a
spectrometer. The best goji berries have a special spectral sign,
and the best qualiy goji berry products have berries which have been
analyzed for their special spectral signature.
