One of the most popular ways of enjoying the healthful benefits of
goji is by drinking goji juice. You can have a glass with breakfast,
lunch or for a refreshing snack. It is recommended that you drink
at least two ounces of goji juice a day to enjoy the benefits of the
berry. Four ounces of goji juice have been proven to have even more
beneficial effects than 2 ounces, so drink up. As with orange juice,
you can never get too much goji juice.
However, not all goji juices are created equal. Just as wine is made
from many different kind of grapes, so too, there are many kinds of
goji berries which vary widely in their quality and availability.
Goji berries can be analyzed to see if their cellular composition
matches that of the ideal goji berry. The best goji juice is cold
expeller pressed to remove all of the pulp and inspected so pesticide
residue can be removed (organic goji juice is very difficult, if possible
to find, but many companies are in the process of developing it).
It is best to buy gohji juice in sterile plastic bottles rather than
glass, which doesn’t keep the goji juice as long.
As with all juices, you should drink goji juice at least within about
10 days of opening it. All containers should be stored in the refrigerator
right after they are opened. Goji juice is quite versatile and can
be served hot, like a fruit tea, cold, or combined with other juices.
The best goji juice does not contain sugar or other sweeteners, but
many companies add other juices to the goji to sweeten it (the fruit
does, however, have a good natural flavor). Goji juice on ice is great
for the summertime, or it can be combined with lemonade. Goji juice
can be frozen on an ice cube tray to make goji sicles for the kids.
